Sector-specific CBAM calculation and reporting for one of Türkiye's largest EU export categories: iron and steel.
Iron and steel is one of the **6 strategic sectors** the European Union has placed under CBAM. With Türkiye among the world's leading iron and steel exporters to the EU, CBAM compliance is a direct competitive issue for Turkish producers. CarbonEmit calculates emission intensity separately for integrated mills, EAF (electric arc furnace) and BOF (basic oxygen furnace) routes.
During the CBAM transitional period that started on 1 October 2023, **quantity and embedded-emission reporting are mandatory** for iron and steel products. From 1 January 2026 onwards, financial obligations via CBAM certificates begin. For Turkish iron and steel producers exporting to the EU, integrated calculation infrastructure aligned with the Authorised CBAM Declarant process has become a regulatory requirement.
The product codes below fall under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and require embedded emission reporting for exports to the EU.

CarbonEmit provides sector-specific emission factors, automatic CN code mapping and CBAM XML/Excel output ready for direct upload to the EU CBAM Transitional Registry.
CN 7201–7229 (semi-finished, hot/cold-rolled steel), CN 7301–7311 (pipes and fittings), CN 7318 (bolts, nuts) — over 40 CN codes are CBAM-covered. Full list above.
CarbonEmit collects per-installation electricity consumption (critical for EAF), pellet/sinter inputs (critical for BOF), reductant quantities and waste heat recovery data separately. It applies the calculation method specified in the CBAM Implementing Regulation annexes and automatically benchmarks site-specific (specific embedded emissions) versus default values.
Scrap input is treated as zero embedded emission (CBAM Implementing Regulation 2023/1773 Annex III). CarbonEmit factors your scrap ratio into total metallic charge automatically, typically yielding much lower intensity for EAF installations than BOF.
On CarbonEmit, a typical Turkish steel producer's first CBAM report is generated within 30 minutes after production and energy data upload. We project ~1 hour average for back-quarter CBAM reports.
